I wanted Levi to disrupt Elena's song (which keeps sounding in my head like this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vt9vl8… ) with something heavy metal but also a damn fine tune on its own.  Rammstein's Adios (a song about losing the battle with drug addiction) struck me as appropriate.

I also wanted him to level with her about how the whole situation stands in his mind.  It's an echo of Daren's earlier argument, and frankly an argument that most comic book heroes don't consider.  I've heard it said that villains act and heroes react, but that's horrifically limited storytelling.  Batman investigates constantly, even when a case seems neatly resolved.  That's not reactive.

Heroes defend social equilibrium, not the status quo.  If the status quo is disrupting the social equilibrium, then the status quo needs to change, and heroes are usually on the forefront of that change, not villains.  For my characters, they are largely concerned with their own social equilibrium, but even a small group's social equilibrium can have far-reaching effects, as seen with the splintering of the Sixth Street Strikers and the reinvigorating of Jack's Junkyard into an automotive repair garage.

So, I guess that's the central theme I was going for in these chapters...  That, and writing the whole thing around Jared saying "I'd do chick me.  I'd do chick you, too!"
